Toluca: Mexican Restaurant in Coruña with a lot of vegan options | EXPRESS EXPERIENCES
I am naming this new kind of posts: Express Experiences. Why? I don’t know, but the name is catchy, isn’t it? 😁
Just kidding, I know why I call them this way. I usually take my camera when I know I’m going to talk about my experience in a restaurant. I really want to give as much credit as I can to the restaurant and I believe the qualitiy of the pictures is something they deserve.
Nevertheless, this makes me post less about the places I visit…why? well, I always forget to take my camera and then I end up having an amazing lunch/dinner in a new place. One thing I hate myself for saying is: “I’ll just go another day, I don’t want to go until I have my camera with me”.
But, you know what? That’s for the Sílvia from the past…or the Sílvia who goes alone to restaurants. Let me explain…my phone is vintage. I have an iphone 5C. Although it takes amazing photos…most of the time it doesn’t work properly. I have to push and squeeze the screen in order for it to work. Why haven’t I bought a new one yet? I’m waiting for the one they’ll release in September. You see, my phones last 5-6 years, I might as well buy the newest model 😅 Plus, I don’t like producing unnecessary waste. So I’ve waited 6 months since I started noticing I couldn’t use the phone anymore as a phone. I installed all apps on my computer and I need to use headphones to receive a phone call or hear my friend’s voice messages…I usually forget my headphones at home too. 🙄🤷🏼♀️
Sílvia’s weird facts aside, I have a partner in crime that has the same schedule I have, so we have lunch together outside every now and then. It’s not all about working… Carlos has a great phone, and that’s my only excuse to have luch with him 😂
For realz, his phone takes photos and makes calls, which is more than I can say of my phone, so when he asked me to try this new restaurant, I said…”but I don’t have my camera!” and he said: “I’ll lend you my phone” My eyes became huge as in a manga comic book and white stars appeared in the middle of my pupils like when Steven Universe gets excited.
Had an eureka moment and said: “From now on, I’m going to call this type of posts Express Experiences”. And you must be thinking…”But what about the food, biatch?” and I say: “Sweeties, I’m just getting started”.
Mexican restaurants make it easy to find gluten-free recipes. So I scanned the menu and noticed that they had not one, but several vegan dishes. Even better, they could veganize some of them.
I ordered the avocado and nopal salad…obvious choice. Believe it or not, it was my first time trying nopales, and I really loved them. It was a similar texture to a green bean mixed with aloe vera. The flavour was fresh and the avocado combined perfectly. It was kind of a pico de gallo with avocado and nopal. Acidic but fruity. Lovely.
Then I ordered tamales. I love tamales and I’ve made them more than once. In Toluca, they are incredibly moist and packed with flavour. They came with a tomato-ey sauce that was wonderful and spicy enough to please everyone’s palates. It came on the side so you could use more or less according to your taste.
I love sauces. Everything tastes good if the sauce is good. This one was awesome and they brought us a couple more hot sauces that were so lovely, I ended up adding them to the tamales too. They were so good without the hot sauces, but again, they deserved to be eaten (that peanut hot sauce…wow!)
What do you think? Do you like the new Express Experiences? I feel like an advertisement asking that 😂 If you do, let me know and I’ll make more. Have fun and keep fooding!
