On books, flowers and friendship
It’s been a while since I’ve been complaining about St. Jordi’s tradition. For those of you who don’t know what it is about, St. Jordi is celebrated on April, 23rd. Tradition says women will get a flower as a present, while men will get a book. Ha! Yeah, sure, whatever. I know flowers are beautiful, and appart from being a bit allergic to some of them, I love getting flowers and plants as a gift. But, come on! Men get books! That’s not fair, not fair at all. This complaint wouldn’t be the same if women received books and men flowers, because I’m a woman and I’d rather get books, but to make clear I’m not sexist in any way…why don’t we change the tradition and give a flower and a book to each other?
Well, my pal Carlos has been hearing this complaint for some years, because most of the times we are on tour when this happens. This year, in particular, I was sad I couldn’t buy a book for myself on the day because it was Sunday and all bookstores were closed.
The good thing about a good friendship is that they can read you even though you haven’t written anything. So here it is, a very nice friendly gesture from Carlos (although I’m sure he added the breakfast because he knew I would mention him on my Instagram hehe). Before a rehearsal, a couple of days ago he bought me this lovely book that I’ve been telling him about lately and he also made breakfast for me…this man is perfect if anyone wants him. Of course, I offered him a horrible fake flower to compensate, but he didn’t want it…so generous.
So, whaterver you do with your lives, make sure you meet nice people that give you books instead of roses and makes breakfast for one in order to start rehearsing earlier. Have fun!
